Back Up Generators
When you are looking to install an Off Grid system at your home or business, an important step with your new power supply is to ensure that when you go through a poor weather event over multiple days you have a suitable emergency backup solution on hand that can assist the solar with keeping your batteries topped up.
We recommend a single or 3 phase generator connected to the system as a back-up when required -for those occasional high use days (visitors) or prolonged bad weather events.
The size of the generator depends on what kind of system you have. It is a requirement that your back-up generator is hardwired to the system. Generators with a 2 Wire Automatic Start Module are appropriate for all applications (where your generator is required to stop and start via a 2-wire signal).
For solar applications, where your backup generator is fitted with a 2 wire auto start module – it will work in conjunction with your solar inverter, to come on automatically, top up the batteries, and then stop when fully charged.
The purpose is also to get load assistance from the generator instantly if/when the power load in the house exceeds the maximum capacity of the inverter avoiding a system shut down (and no dinner !)
